Squelch beat noise-niks Chikinki are at the forefront of an exciting new Bristol scene with their genre defying twisted sound. Comprising of Rupert, Boris, Trevor, Ed and Steve, Chikinki weld eclectic influences into something that is distinctly their own. The band’s ‘Telephone Heroes’ EP in 2000 caught the attention of Sink and Stove Records and resulted the their debut album ‘Experiment with Mother’, released in March 2001 to a flurry of acclaim in the music press.

Proving their worth on the live circuit, 2001 saw the band perform with the likes of Les Savy Fav, John Parish, Electrelane, Sweep the Leg Johnny, Saloon, Monkey Steals the Drum and The Experimental Pop Band. Capable of dramatic and legendary live shows, this reputation saw Chikinki selected for a special November 2001 UK tour by cult music publication Circuit Magazine. Chikinki were also chosen to represent Sink and Stove in the new ‘British Underground’ record labels scheme, funded by the Arts Council.

March 2002 saw Chikinki's last release for Sink and Stove, the single ‘Like it or Leave it’ (taken from ‘Experiment with Mother’) backed with 3 brand new tracks ‘Robotic Age’, ‘Let’s Get Lost’ and a dramatic version of ‘Dark Skies’.

In 2003 Chikinki signed to Island/Universal. Their 2004 album 'Lick Your Ticket' includes re-recorded versions of tracks from 'Experiment With Mother', which has now sold out (and a repress is unlikely). Limited copies of 'Like it or Leave it' are still available.
