Bristol based band Mooz joined Sink and Stove in 2002; being a collective of four individuals creating an intensely edgy and seductive new sound using cello, bass, drums, guitar and vocals. With a broad range of musical influences they respond to their environment; creating haunting city soundscapes based around stripped-down melodic groove songs.

The band formed in late 1997 when they all met on a music technology course at a nearby college in Weston. Their first ever gig in 1998 was voted Venue Magazine’s gig of the year, ahead of Portishead, De La Soul and not surprisingly Robbie Williams. Since then the band have gigged regularly across the UK (including Glastonbury Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe), supported reggae legend Horace Andy and earned the endorsement of Roni Size back in their hometown. Recent live shows alongside label-mates Chikinki, Big Joan and Morning Star have only confirmed their status as one of Bristol’s top live bands. Appearances on a number of well-received compilation albums and their two-track demo caught the attention of Sink and Stove Records.

The member’s of Mooz are all involved in the creative arts and music scene of Bristol. Paula has written music for films and appears on recent Monk and Canatella releases, both Amy and Rasha often play for Morning Star and Jessica composes music for art and performance installations at the established Arnolfini gallery.

Mooz’s debut album was released by Sink and Stove in May 2002. All tracks on the album were recorded at Christchurch Studios, Bristol, co-produced by John Waterhouse and the band. Mooz recently played at Sink and Stove’s 2nd Birthday gig at the Thekla, Bristol.

Sadly Mooz disbanded in 2003. However a sophomore album release of newer material, recorded live in one day is out on the Blood Red Sounds label.
